Alphabet Bead Spelling Words

February 13, 2020 By Terri Thompson

Have you seen those bags of alphabet beads in the craft store?

It’s fun to use them to make jewelry, but there are so many fun educational things you can use them for as well. Like today, we’re going to use them as a fun spelling activity.

So, grab your word list and let’s make some alphabet bead spelling words.

Alphabet Bead Spelling Words is such a fun activity to help your child master any spelling list. It's easy to set up and promotes fine motor skills too.

Disclosure: There are Amazon Affiliate and other affiliate links in this article which means, at no additional cost to you, we could receive compensation for our recommendations. You can read our full disclosure policy on our Disclosure Page for more details.

Once you’re done with your alphabet bead spelling, check out these other fun ways to practice spelling words.

Set Up Your Alphabet Bead Spelling Activity

This activity doesn’t need any set-up beyond grabbing a couple of supplies.

All you need in a bag of letter beads and a printed list of your child’s spelling words. That’s it. Gather everything and have it ready for homework time.

Where to Buy Alphabet Beads

Purchasing your letter beads is the most time-consuming part of this process. But, one you have them, you can do this spelling activity over and over again.

You can usually find them in any craft store or in the craft department at a store like Target and Wal-Mart.

If you don’t want to go out shopping, you can also find the on Amazon. Here are a few options to check out.

Colorful Alphabet Beads

Use Letter Beads for Spelling Practice

Once you have the supplies, simply have you child use the beads to spell each of their words.

They can just pick out the letters to form the words. Or, they can thread them onto a pipe cleaner for some additional fine motor practice.

Keep the alphabet beads in a small bag or container, like a cute pencil bag, near your homework station. That way, they’ll always be ready for after school spelling practice.

Grab some beads and start practicing spelling words with this fun Alphabet Bead Spelling Words activity. It's a fun way to learn.

Fun variations to this Alphabet Bead Spelling Words activity

For an added challenge, call out the words to your child so they have to spell by memory. This adds a fun twist to a practice spelling test.

Give your child the letters of one of their words and mix up the bead. Have them unscramble the letters to make their spelling word.

String your beads on jewelry cord to make a spelling word bracelet. They could even wear the bracelets for some instant word practice. (But make sure to leave the bracelets at home for spelling test day!)

Winter Family Movies for a Cozy Movie Night

January 23, 2020 By Terri Thompson

The snow is falling, temperatures are dropping, and the whole family is home. It’s the perfect time for a family movie night!

It’s also a great time for one of these winter family movies. The snowy settings and winter activities featured are a perfect way to spend some quality family time together.

The best family friendly movies for a winter movie night.

Winter Family Movies

What makes a great winter movie?

To me, it’s a movie with snowy scenes or one that takes place in the winter. It may be a fun heart-warming hockey movie, or a wild Alaskan adventure.

No matter the topic, these are all fun movies that will tempt you to curl up under a blanket with mugs of hot chocolate.

Here are all my recommendations for a Winter Family Movie Night.

Winter Family Movies

Grab some blankets, some hot chocolate, and cuddle up with your family for a fun movie night with one of these winter family movies.

Frozen

You may have already seen this one again and again, but you can't make a winter movie without this fun snowy, Disney classic. This choice is great for your little ones! Rated PG.

Ice Age

In this hilarious animated film, a group of prehistoric animals work together to save a human baby. Rated PG.

Happy Feet

This is the story of Mumble, a penguin who can't find his heart song but instead dances. He's exiled from his community and finds another group of penguins who convinces him that his dancing is actually cool. Rated PG.

Cool Runnings

This funny movie is loosely based on the Jamaican bob-sled team from the 1988 Winter Olympics. This heartwarming story is a great option for families that are ready to move beyond animated films. Rated PG.

Eight Below

This adventure movie is based on a true story of a group of sled dogs that have been forced to stay behind because of a winter storm and medical emergency. The brave dogs work to reunite with their human. As is common in wilderness adventure movies, there are some tense situations and wildlife peril. It's an awesome choice for the family. Rated PG.

The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe

This family-friendly fantasy movie based on the beloved children's classic takes place in a winter wonderland. It's a great choice for for a snowy evening. Rated PG.

March of the Penguins

This movie may be a documentary, but it's got plenty of humor and story-telling. Morgan Freeman's narration and stunning natural images will keep the whole family entertained. Rated G.

Miracle

This fun sports movie is based on the 1980 Olympic US Hockey team who won gold while winning the hearts of America. You'll be cheering by the end. Rated PG.

Little Women

There have been many movie versions of this great classic, but this 1994 version is my favorite. It stays true to the book and would be a great choice for a mother-daughter movie night. Rated PG.

The Mighty Ducks

There's just something about a hockey movie that makes it perfect for a winter movie night. I love this choice because it's a funny, heart-warming story of a misfit team and they're very unlikely coach. Rated PG.

Mr. Popper's Penguins

While it shares the name with a classic children's book, this movie is very different that the book. But, that doesn't mean it's not a fun choice for a movie night! It's slapstick and a great choice if you're looking for something funny. Rated PG.

Snow Dogs

This is a light-hearted choice about a Miami dentist who inherits a team of sled dogs and moves to Alaska. It's a fish-out-of-water story that's fun for the whole family. Rated PG.

Ice Princess

This is a fun and inspiring movie about a young girl who follows her dreams and a mother who learns to let go of her own dreams for her daughter. This is a great choice if you have tween girls! Rated G.

White Fang

This story of a hunter and his adopted wolf-dog set in gold-rush Alaska is perfect when you're looking for a great family-friendly adventure. Rated PG.

Togo

This movie that tells the story of the brave lead dog who leads a sled through hazardous conditions to get some much-needed medicine for their community. This movie is a Disney+ exclusive and it's a great choice if you have this subscription service. Rated PG.

Plan a Winter Movie Night

Did you decide on a movie? I’ve got my eye on Cool Runnings for our next movie night.

It won’t take long to plan a cozy movie night. Just queue up the movie and gather as my blankets as you can.

Plan a few snacks. A warm cup of hot chocolate is always a great choice. Add in a fun snack like this Peanut Butter Popcorn from 3 Boys & a Dog. Or try this Churro Chex Mix from Oh Sweet Basil. Both of these recipes are family favorites at our house!

You can also try one of these yummy popcorn snacks!

These winter family movies are all great choices for you next family movie night. Enjoy these great winter movies for kids that the whole family will love.
